Let’s face it. 2020 has been probably the most difficult year we all have ever experienced.
We are now in the midst of a holiday season like no other. Many of us are isolated, separated from extended family and friends because of this pandemic and it makes you wonder how to find joy in the midst of it all.
That only makes it more important than ever to find ways to still celebrate, to lift our spirits, to always remember the reason for the season, and to not let traditions die. If you still have children at home, it is especially important that they can still make some happy memories. After all, this pandemic can’t last forever.
Go ahead and decorate. Put up a tree if you can, string lights, and garland. Add battery operated lights to your garlands and wreaths to help them sparkle. Add lights to your porch, on your bushes, and anywhere you could use a happy boost of color and twinkle. If you have kids, have a family craft-making session. Make sparkly homemade decorations, or gingerbread houses, break out all the special nostalgic ornaments and turn your space inside and out into a winter wonderland.
Get your bake on. Crank up the carols and start baking, cookies, cakes, pies, candies, whatever tastes like Christmas to your family. Decorate cookies, and drink cocoa. The smell of hot spiced apple cider on the stove adds a wonderful backdrop to the festivities as well.
If you are able, set up virtual gatherings with family and friends that you won’t be able to see in person. It helps a lot to be able to see their faces as you visit with them.
Curl up with your children and watch your favorite Christmas movies, read books out loud, share favorite memories of past holidays, and be thankful for the time together because it is precious.
